Young Love Triumphs in Sultry Spanish Tale

(Winnipeg, Manitoba; April 23, 2008) – Escape to the exotic, sun-soaked shores of Spain to experience toreadors, gypsies and the intensity of young love as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division presents In Concert, a year-end showcase featuring Act One of Don Quixote, May 14 to 17.

Get swept up in the grand adventure of Kitri and Basilio, a young, passionate couple whose love is threatened when Kitri’s father plans to marry her to another. Unable to part, Kitri and Basilio run off together with tambourines ringing in their wake. Vivika Ballard and Johnstuart Winchell, Level 7 Professional Division students set to graduate in June, capture the bravura and innocence of the two young lovebirds with fresh-faced, exuberant performances. Rising star Tristan Dobrowney, who has recently signed a contract with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and will be dancing with the Company as an apprentice next season, will be performing the role of ‘Espada’, a charismatic bullfighter. Ryan Booth will also grace the stage, before he joins the National Ballet of Canada as an apprentice this coming fall.

In Concert will also feature excerpts from Haydn Grand Défilé, choreographed by Jorden Morris, Associate Director of the RWB School Professional Division, former RWB Company principal dancer and choreographer of the smash hit Peter Pan. The gorgeous Sleeping Beauty pas de deux and Sarabande, a neo-classical, abstract work by Mark Godden, the acclaimed choreographer of Dracula, will also be performed.

In Concert is made possible through the generous support of Investors Group, Canadian Heritage, the Manitoba Arts Council and Arts Stabilization Manitoba.
