Close to 50 Altona and area children leapt and pirouetted their way into the hearts of the audience at the year end recital at the MEC.

The ballet and jazz students gave the audience variety, coming out in an array of outfits and demonstrating different dance styles.

Even the very young made an appearance and the two creative movement classes showed off their skills dressed as lions and clowns.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School recreational division, of which the Altona program is a satellite, also featured two dances, one called "Pachuko" and another called "They Weren't There."

The Professional Division performed Pas de Deux from the ballet "Don Quixote."

Altona Coordinator Lin Fehr said the program has been in Altona since 1984 and has been getting more popular. "It's been going up that last couple years," she said.

Running September to March, the program has something for everyone from three-years-old to Grade 12 students. Fehr said she would encourage everyone to give it a try.

"It is an excellent form of exercise," she said. "It's a chance to get out and be creative."
