We have witnessed amazing growth in the students throughout the year and the continued support and encouragement from you only inspires the teachers and students to strive for excellence. We appreciate that schedules become very hectic throughout the year and the effort put forth by you to ensure that your children are present at their classes and at rehearsals only allows us to produce the best results possible and to provide a positive, disciplined and fun environment. Preview Night Vouchers – All Balanchine Vouchers for all Dance Plus members have been mailed out. You may redeem your voucher immediately at the School Office for tickets. Non-Dance Plus members DO NOT require a voucher and may pick up their ticket at the School Office immediately as well. Parents may purchase two additional tickets for this performance at a cost of $20/ticket. If you are a Dance Plus member and have not received your preview night voucher, please inquire at the School Office. * Students who will be absent for their regularly scheduled Tuesday evening classes due to Preview Night, must inform their teacher to ensure that their absence is not recorded towards their final attendance record.
Placement Forms and Contact Information Placement forms for the 2008/09 dance season will be mailed to your home within the first two weeks of June along with a fall/winter brochure , fee schedule and class schedule. Within the next month, we ask that you confirm your address with the School Office if you have moved within the last year. Please bring your placement forms when registering in June. The RWBS, in attempt to continue to improve our communication with parents, is moving towards the use of email for correspondence of important dates and other pertinent information. Please take a moment to ensure that your email address is updated with the School Office. Intensive Training Program Auditions The ITP is a program that is designed for those students who have shown an aptitude and dedication to the study of classical ballet on a more serious level. Participants of this program are accepted through an audition process. If your child is interested in auditioning for this program, please speak to your child’s ballet teacher to clarify the level as to which your child should audition for. All current ITP students must audition for the following year. Further information is available at the School Office. Auditions will be held: Tuesday, June 10th Wednesday, June 11th *All auditioning candidates will be required to demonstrate pointe work in the audition. Please register at the School Office in advance. Dance Intensive Dance Intensive is a great way for students to continue to stay fit and dance through August. This unique program is open to students ages 9-18 and includes daily ballet classes, along with additional classes in other disciplines. The program culminates in a dance demonstration for parents on the last day where students showcase their work over the course of the program. Registration is limited. Registration brochures are available online or at the School Office and are currently being accepted. Adult Summer Dance Adult Summer Dance is an annual summer program specifically for adults. It encompasses all aspects of dance from basic training classes to more advanced classes in various disciplines. Classes run in the evening and classes are offered in the following dance forms: Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical Jazz, Pilates, Modern, Spanish, Musical Theatre and Movement Improvisation. Registration is currently being accepted and space is limited, so register now! Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival The schedule has arrived! Please review the times and dates to ensure that you are aware of when your child’s pieces will be presented. Choreographers will be discussing details with the students over the next couple of weeks to ensure make-up, costume and arrival times and details are understood. The schedule is posted beside the staff biographies on the 2nd floor. Tickets for the Festival may be purchased at the door. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parent volunteers who offered their time to volunteer at the festival on behalf of the RWBS. Your commitment is greatly appreciated. Eriksdale and Beausejour Satellite Performances Amanda Joy and the Beausejour Satellite Program will be presenting their final recital on Friday, May 9th in Beausejour at Ecole Beausejour Early Years School. Perhaps, choreographed by Darilyn Burdeniuk, performed by the Senior Tap Dance Ensemble will be performing, along with Gravel, choreographed by Laurie Alston, performed by Kaja Irwin as well as In 3’s, choreographed by Laurie Alston, performed by Joey Frohlinger. Following this performance, the Eriksdale Satellite Program, taught by Kaylah Ainslie and Carmelle Hearn will be presenting their final recital on Saturday, May 24th. Performing at this recital will be, L’Expression D’Amitie choreographed by Kelly Bale and performed by Carah Campbell, Nina Huynh, Natasha Osawa, Giulia Severini, Morgan Wiebe and Gabrielle Wiest, Swanilda, staged by Kristina Washchyshyn and performed by Morgan Wiebe as well as Clarite du Ciel, choreographed by Kelly Bale and performed by Natasha Osawa and finally, Little Bird, choreographed by Nicole Egeland and performed by Nina Huynh. Details have gone out to all students and are available at the School Office should you require any clarification. Bun-Making and Make-Up Workshop Take this opportunity to learn how to put your daughter’s hair in a classical bun for Dance Spectrum and Spring Concert. Also, learn how to apply appropriate stage make-up for boys and girls. Please sign up at the School Office in advance. There is no charge for this workshop. You will be required to bring all the necessary supplies to the workshop. You will receive this list upon signing up at the School Office. Date: Saturday, May 31st Canadian National Dance Championships On April 18th and 20th, the RWBS participated in the Canadian National Dance Championships at the Marlborough Hotel and Convention Centre. The following performers participated and all students were praised with positive remarks from the judges and were awarded very high marks: Taryne Shinnimin (1st place), Danica Efremjan, Angeline Rivard (1st place), Reanna Joseph (3rd place), Kristine Wilson, Alexandra Scarola, Rachelle Bourget, Kirsty Reid, Kira Kjear (teacher) and Jenna Wiklund. Congratulations go out to all dancers and teachers who worked very hard in preparation for this event. Staff and Student News Patti Caplette recently returned from adjudicating at the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts. The festival took place April 6-11 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Ms Caplette adjudicated ballet, pointe, contemporary, character, lyrical, jazz, tap, cabaret and national dance. She thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was impressed by the talent in the area. Former RWBS Recreational Division student, Jaz Sealy has landed a great role in the musical Dirty Dancing which is currently running in Toronto. Jaz is the understudy for the role of Tito and performs in the production’s ensemble. We are very proud of his accomplishments and congratulate him on his success. Dance Spectrum and Spring Concert If you have not yet purchased your tickets for Dance Spectrum or Spring Concert, you are still in luck! Tickets went on sale as of Monday, April 7th and are still available through Ticketmaster for all 3 performances. Every year, Dance Spectrum #1 brings with it a theme for the performance. This year, the theme is “Creative Connections”. In light of the theme we have grouped several classes together. Other classes will be incorporating partner work and other creative ideas to connect. Over the next month several classes will be asked in advance to stay later or come slightly earlier to rehearse with the classes that they are combined with. Some classes may be asked to attend an additional rehearsal in preparation for the recital. These classes are at no extra charge. Spring Concert also will present themes from the Stories from Mother Goose. This performance will take you back to bedtime as a child as the Blind Mice and Little Bo Beep dance through the afternoon. DVD and Photo Orders Dance Spectrum DVD and photo order forms are available at the School Office. Please complete the forms and return them to the School Office. DVDs and photos will be available for pick-up up at the School Office between August 4th and September 30th. The last day to order Dance Spectrum DVDs and photos is June 16th. Dance Spectrum DVDs: $20 each Class Photos: $8 each Parent Volunteer Meeting All parent volunteers have been contacted and informed that they are required to attend an information session to go over the many details involving their duties on the day of the performances. If you have volunteered for Dance Spectrum or Spring Concert and have not been contacted, please call the School Office immediately. Saturday, May 31st 10:30-11:15 SPRING CONCERT VOLUNTEERS Further Information Dance Spectrum information regarding details of the dress rehearsal and performances will be available the second week of May. PLEASE review this information carefully and ensure that you are clear on the procedures of the day. If you have any questions whatsoever, please seek answers at the School Office.
